Boaz, AL (October 22, 2025) – A serious truck accident involving a school bus and a pickup truck in Boaz left five people injured early Wednesday morning, according to the Boaz Police Department.

Authorities reported that the collision occurred at approximately 6:32 a.m. along Alabama Highway 168, between Reed Avenue and Shields Road. The crash involved a Boaz City Schools bus carrying six students and its driver, as well as a pickup truck driven by a resident with four passengers onboard.

When officers arrived, they confirmed that none of the students or the bus driver suffered injuries. However, all five occupants of the pickup truck sustained varying degrees of injury. Three of the victims were taken by ambulance to Huntsville Hospital for treatment. Another passenger was initially taken to Marshall Medical Center South and later airlifted to Huntsville Hospital due to the severity of their condition. A fifth passenger was transported to MMCS by private vehicle.

We wish the victim and everyone involved a speedy recovery.

Understanding the Impact of Truck Accidents Involving School Buses

ree

Crashes involving school buses and pickup trucks, such as this one on AL Hwy 168, can be especially alarming due to the number of passengers at risk and the size disparity between vehicles. While school buses are designed to provide maximum protection for young passengers, collisions with smaller vehicles often result in severe injuries to those in the lighter vehicle due to the force of impact.

Morning traffic hours, when visibility may be reduced and drivers are often rushing to reach work or school, are common times for such incidents to occur. Investigators will likely look into factors such as driver fatigue, speed, road conditions, or possible distraction to determine what caused this tragic event.

According to data from the Alabama Department of Transportation, collisions involving school buses are relatively rare but can be particularly dangerous when they occur. In most cases, the individuals in passenger vehicles bear the brunt of the damage. Injuries from these types of crashes can include head trauma, internal bleeding, and spinal injuries, many of which require lengthy recovery periods.
