According to reports from the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, a 2024 Honda CRV and a 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLC300 collided along the highway for reasons that remain under investigation. Tragically, 74-year-old Dessie S. Medley of Speedwell, Tennessee, was killed in the crash. She was riding as a passenger in the Honda when it was struck by the Mercedes.

Further details about the total number of injured victims have not been released at this time.
We extend our our deepest condolences to the family of Dessie S. Medley. We hope those injured in this accident recover quickly.
Car Accidents in Alabama

Car accidents in Alabama continue to affect thousands of families every year. According to state data, Alabama sees over 150,000 crashes annually, with more than 45,000 injuries and over 900 fatalities on average.
Staying aware of the risks on the road is vital for everyone who gets behind the wheel. To help you stay informed, here are some common injuries that occur in car accidents:
Head and Brain Injuries: Head trauma is among the most serious outcomes of a vehicle collision. Traumatic brain injuries can result from hitting the steering wheel, dashboard, or windows. Even mild concussions can have long-term impacts on memory and focus. It is important for victims to seek immediate medical evaluation for any head injury symptoms.
Spinal Cord Injuries: Damage to the spinal cord may cause partial or complete paralysis. Victims often face extensive recovery periods, including surgeries and physical rehabilitation. These injuries can also lead to lifelong limitations and costly ongoing care.
Broken Bones: Fractures are common, especially in high-impact collisions. Broken arms, legs, ribs, or hips often require surgeries, casts, and lengthy recovery times. These injuries can also result in lost income and reduced mobility for months or longer.
Internal Injuries: Damage to internal organs is life-threatening if not treated promptly. Spleen, liver, or lung injuries often require emergency surgery. These injuries may not always be visible right after a crash, so victims should always undergo a thorough medical check-up.
