Guntersville, AL (September 24, 2025) – A pickup truck driver suffered serious injuries following a crash with a Guntersville City School bus early Wednesday morning.

The Guntersville Police Department reported that the accident happened at about 6:44 a.m. at the intersection of Hwy 431 North and Buck Island Dr. The collision involved a white pickup truck and a school bus carrying seven children.

Authorities said one child was transported to the hospital for observation, though the child’s injuries were not considered severe. The remaining children were evaluated at the scene by Guntersville Fire Department medics and were released back to school.

The pickup truck driver sustained serious injuries and was transported by ambulance to Huntsville Hospital for further treatment.

Guntersville City Schools confirmed that the bus had been leaving Gunters Landing at the time of the crash. Transportation officials and school administrators responded quickly to support students and ensure parents were notified.

Authorities said Hwy 431 was closed for a short time while crews cleared the scene, but it has since reopened. The Guntersville Police Department continues to investigate the cause of the collision.

Our thoughts are with those affected by this accident.

School Bus and Car Accidents in Alabama

Accidents involving school buses are especially alarming because they put children at risk. Although buses are designed for safety, the size of these vehicles means that collisions can still lead to serious injuries for other drivers and passengers. In this Guntersville crash, the pickup truck driver sustained the most severe injuries, underscoring the dangers of passenger vehicles colliding with larger vehicles.

According to the Alabama Department of Transportation, crashes involving school buses remain relatively rare but can have devastating consequences when they occur. Contributing factors often include driver error, failure to yield, distracted driving, or poor visibility during early morning and evening hours.

Parents rely on school transportation services to keep children safe, and any incident involving a bus can cause anxiety within the community. Thankfully, in this case, most students avoided injury, though one child required medical observation as a precaution.

For victims of severe crashes, such as the pickup truck driver in this accident, recovery may involve extended hospital stays, rehabilitation, and time away from work.
