Leighton, AL (August 1, 2025) – A deadly crash involving two vehicles took place Thursday afternoon, claiming the life of a Muscle Shoals woman.

The accident occurred at approximately 1:35 p.m. on July 31 along Alabama 20, close to the 36-mile marker near Leighton. Authorities say 38-year-old Keddra C. Ingram was riding as a passenger in a 2025 Lincoln Corsair when it collided with a tractor-trailer. The impact of the crash proved fatal for Ingram, who was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency officials.

Investigators with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency responded to the scene shortly after the crash. At this time, the cause of the collision remains under investigation, and it is not yet clear whether charges will be filed. Traffic was delayed in the area for several hours as crews worked to investigate and clear the roadway.

No additional details have been released regarding the driver of the Lincoln or the operator of the tractor-trailer. ALEA continues to look into the events that led up to the crash. Witnesses or individuals with information about the collision are encouraged to reach out to law enforcement.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Keddra Ingram.

Wrongful Death Accidents in Alabama

Losing a loved one in a sudden accident leaves families with many unanswered questions. Below are a few things families may face in the aftermath of a wrongful death:

  • Wrongful Death Claims: When someone’s death is caused by another person or entity’s carelessness or wrongdoing, a wrongful death claim may be appropriate. In Alabama, these claims allow families to pursue punitive damages to hold the responsible party accountable.

  • Investigations Can Take Time: Police and crash investigators must examine the scene, review vehicle data, speak to witnesses, and sometimes reconstruct the crash. This process is crucial to understanding what happened but can take weeks or months to complete.

  • Financial Strain on Families: Beyond the emotional pain, funeral costs, medical bills, and loss of income can place significant burdens on families after a fatal accident.

  • Emotional Impact on Survivors: The trauma of losing a family member in a crash can affect spouses, children, and other relatives for years. Grief counseling and support groups may be helpful for coping with the loss.

  • Legal Representation Is Key: Having legal support early on helps ensure families understand their rights. An attorney can work to preserve evidence, communicate with insurers, and begin building a strong claim for compensation.
