Car Accidents in Alabama

Every 11 minutes and 5 seconds, at least one person is injured in a car crash somewhere in Alabama. This adds up to over 128 individuals harmed daily in vehicle accidents throughout our area.

While no one plans to be in an accident, many people end up injured due to the actions of others. According to the Alabama Department of Transportation, several factors contribute to accidents in our state, including:

  • Impairment: Annually, over 6,000 individuals face charges for driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol in Alabama, with impaired drivers being 6.9 times more likely to be in fatal crashes.

  • Failure to yield the right of way: This is a common cause of non-fatal accidents in Alabama, leading to over 23,000 collisions every year.

  • Tailgating: Over 22,400 individuals sustain injuries in car crashes involving drivers who follow too closely.

  • Speeding: Speeding is the primary cause of accidents in Alabama and nationwide.

  • Misjudging stopping distances: Driving too close to other vehicles can have severe consequences, with nearly 14,000 crashes occurring annually in our state due to drivers misjudging stopping distances.
