Muscle Shoals, AL (August 11, 2025) – Late on the night of August 9, tragedy struck at the intersection of Wilson Dam Road and Avalon Avenue when a car collided with a motorcycle, claiming the life of the rider. According to the Muscle Shoals Police Department, the crash happened at around 10:35 p.m. Officers responding to the call quickly determined the severity of the incident and notified the department’s traffic homicide investigators.
Upon arrival, investigators found that the motorcycle, operated by 51-year-old Marlos Ritchie Jr. of Florence, had been struck by a car. The force of the impact left Ritchie with fatal injuries, and Colbert County Coroner Justin Gasque pronounced him dead at the scene. Authorities worked to process evidence, document the crash site, and speak with witnesses. The identity of the driver involved has not been released at this time.
The crash led to partial closures in the area while officials investigated, causing some delays for late-night motorists. Muscle Shoals Police have stated that their investigation is still ongoing and further details will be released as they become available.
We hope the loved ones of Marlos Ritchie Jr. find comfort during this challenging time.
Motorcycle Accidents in Alabama

Motorcycle collisions can have particularly severe outcomes, and understanding the risks involved is important for all drivers.
Reduced Protection: Unlike cars, motorcycles do not have the structural protection of a vehicle body, airbags, or seatbelts. This means riders are more exposed and vulnerable to direct impact in a crash.
Smaller Visibility Profile: Motorcycles can be harder for other drivers to spot, especially at night or in poor weather. This can lead to collisions during lane changes or at intersections.
Road Hazards: Loose gravel, uneven pavement, or debris that might be minor for a car can be dangerous for a motorcycle, increasing the likelihood of loss of control.
Longer Recovery Times: Injuries from motorcycle crashes, such as fractures, head trauma, or spinal damage, often require extended medical treatment and rehabilitation. This can also result in significant time away from work.
