Atmore, AL (August 4, 2025) – A deadly two-vehicle crash occurred Friday afternoon, August 1, just north of Atmore, leaving a Bratt man dead.
The incident unfolded around 2:03 p.m. along Highway 21 near Huxford Road. Authorities say a sedan and a semi-truck collided after their paths crossed in the intersection. The sedan, a Ford Crown Victoria, was driven by 61-year-old Marion Cooper of Bratt, Florida. Cooper’s vehicle became trapped beneath the trailer of the truck, resulting in a fatal outcome.
Marion Cooper was tragically pronounced deceased at the scene. First responders worked quickly to secure the area and evaluate all involved. The driver of the semi-truck was reportedly uninjured in the collision.
Preliminary findings suggest that Cooper may have experienced a medical episode prior to the crash, which could have contributed to the incident. Despite early information, officials have not confirmed the exact cause and are continuing their inquiry into the circumstances.
Alabama State Troopers remain on the scene and have launched a formal investigation into the accident. Traffic was disrupted along Highway 21 for several hours as investigators and emergency teams managed the aftermath and worked to clear the roadway. Huxford Road remained partially blocked during cleanup efforts.
We extend our sincere condolences to the family of the deceased man.
Truck Accidents in Alabama

Losing someone suddenly in a crash is incredibly difficult. As families process the loss, it's also important to understand the complex factors surrounding large vehicle collisions:
Size and Weight Differences: Trucks like 18-wheelers can weigh up to 80,000 pounds, significantly more than standard passenger cars. When crashes occur between such vehicles, the risk of severe or fatal injuries rises dramatically due to the force of impact.
Underride Collisions: These crashes happen when a smaller vehicle slides beneath a larger truck’s trailer, often resulting in devastating injuries. Special guards and better lighting can help prevent these types of accidents, but not all trucks are equipped accordingly.
Medical Conditions and Driving: Sudden health issues, such as heart attacks or strokes, may cause drivers to lose control. While this is difficult to predict, it’s a factor that authorities often consider when investigating unexpected crashes.
Intersection Dangers: Intersections remain one of the most common places for serious collisions. Confusion over right-of-way, visibility issues, or even momentary distractions can have serious consequences.
Investigation Timelines: Crash investigations involving fatalities may take weeks or months. Authorities gather black box data, witness accounts, and medical findings before releasing a full report.
