Camden, AL (March 21, 2025) – A deadly car crash occurred early Thursday morning, resulting in the loss of a Camden resident’s life. The incident occurred around 12:30 a.m. on Alabama 265, about two miles south of Camden, as reported by the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA). Officials indicate that Cody W. Couch, 33, sustained fatal injuries when the vehicle he was riding in veered off the road, flipped over and collided with several trees. Couch, who was not wearing a seatbelt during the crash, was thrown from the vehicle and declared dead at the scene.
Emergency personnel, including paramedics and fire crews, arrived quickly to secure the area and provide aid. The driver and another passenger, both injured in the wreck, were rescued from the vehicle by firefighters and taken to nearby hospitals for medical care. The driver was transported to John Paul Jones Hospital in Camden, while the second passenger was taken to USA Hospital in Mobile. Traffic was briefly rerouted as law enforcement worked to manage the scene.
The incident is still under investigation by ALEA Troopers, who are continuing to gather information to determine the cause of the crash.
Our heartfelt condolences are extended to the family and friends of Cody W. Couch during this difficult and tragic time.
Fatal Car Accidents in Wilcox County
In recent years, Wilcox County has witnessed a disturbing rise in deadly car accidents, with many of these incidents involving single-vehicle collisions on its rural roads. These unfortunate occurrences, particularly those where passengers were not using seatbelts, have become a concerning trend. Statistics show that in Alabama, more than half of all traffic deaths involve individuals who failed to wear seatbelts when available. While urban areas see a higher frequency of crashes, the majority of fatalities take place on rural highways, highlighting the greater risks of driving on less-developed roads.
For families impacted by such tragedies, it is crucial to comprehend the legal options available, especially in cases of wrongful death. In Alabama, families have the right to file claims for wrongful death when a loved one’s passing is the result of another person’s negligence or intentional wrongdoing. Unlike many other states, Alabama’s legal system focuses on punitive damages, intended to penalize the responsible party and prevent similar actions in the future. It is vital for families to seek professional legal assistance promptly, as navigating wrongful death claims in Alabama can be complex and challenging.
