Bibb Co, AL (May 12, 2025) – A deadly two-vehicle collision occurred late Friday night, May 9, in Bibb County, claiming the life of a Moundville man and leaving three others hurt, including two minors. The accident took place shortly before 11:00 p.m. along Highway 5 near mile marker 84, roughly two miles south of Brent.
Authorities with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) reported that 44-year-old Willie T. Wills was attempting to evade a Brent Police officer when the crash happened. Wills was behind the wheel of a 2024 Dodge Hornet when he collided with a sport utility vehicle during the pursuit. Emergency responders, including ALEA troopers, local fire crews, and medical personnel, arrived swiftly at the crash site. Firefighters assisted in extracting those trapped in the vehicles, and troopers directed traffic in the area.
Wills, who was not wearing a seatbelt, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the SUV was treated by paramedics and taken to DCH Regional Medical Center in Tuscaloosa. Two juvenile passengers from the SUV were also injured and transported to area hospitals. The extent of their injuries has not yet been disclosed.
The incident is under active investigation by ALEA’s Highway Patrol Division. Officials confirmed that the high-speed chase had begun shortly before the fatal crash and used the event to stress the importance of obeying traffic laws and avoiding dangerous driving behaviors.
We extend our heartfelt sympathies to the family of the deceased victim. We also hope for the full recovery of the wounded individuals.
Deadly Collisions in Bibb County
Bibb County continues to experience a concerning rate of fatal traffic crashes, with many incidents tied to excessive speed, driver recklessness, or failure to use seat belts. Rural roads such as Highway 5 are particularly hazardous due to narrow lanes, sharp curves, and poor visibility, making them frequent sites for catastrophic accidents.
When a fatal crash results from negligent actions, the victim’s loved ones may be eligible to file a wrongful death lawsuit. This legal action provides families an opportunity to pursue compensation for damages such as burial expenses, loss of future income, and emotional suffering. Although financial compensation cannot bring back a lost loved one, it can offer much-needed support during an incredibly difficult time.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Willie T. Wills. Our thoughts are also with the injured individuals as they begin their recovery.
