Cullman Co., AL (November 7, 2025) – A multi-vehicle wreck involving a truck hauling lumber caused major traffic delays and multiple injuries early Thursday morning along Interstate 65 near Lacon, according to reports from the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency and the Cullman County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities say the collision occurred when a truck carrying a heavy load of lumber lost control on the northbound lanes of I-65. Witnesses reported that vehicles had slowed or stopped due to ongoing construction work on the bridge when the truck, unable to stop in time, began veering toward the right shoulder. The driver then struck the bridge guardrail, bounced off, and collided with multiple vehicles in the traffic lanes.

The crash caused lumber to spill across the bridge, completely covering the roadway and forcing officials to close northbound I-65 for nearly four hours. Debris also fell from the bridge into the adjacent embankment, prompting additional cleanup and inspection efforts before the lanes could be safely reopened.

Emergency responders from the Cullman County Sheriff’s Office, ALEA Highway Patrol Division, and local fire crews arrived promptly to assist the injured and secure the area. Several individuals were transported to nearby hospitals for evaluation and treatment, though officials confirmed that none of the injuries appeared to be life-threatening.

Investigators with ALEA are continuing to determine the cause of the crash. Preliminary accounts suggest that the truck may have experienced a mechanical failure, possibly involving its brakes, which prevented it from stopping in time.

We wish all of those injured in this collision a full and speedy recovery.

Truck Accidents in Alabama

ree

Truck accidents like the one on I-65 often have devastating consequences due to the immense weight and size of commercial vehicles. Even a momentary loss of control can lead to multi-vehicle collisions, road closures, and extensive property damage. When heavy loads such as lumber or construction materials are involved, the potential for catastrophic injury increases significantly.

According to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, brake failures and load-related issues are among the most common causes of commercial truck accidents nationwide. Improper maintenance, overloaded trailers, or driver fatigue can also contribute to these incidents. Alabama’s Department of Transportation has noted that interstate routes like I-65 frequently see higher rates of truck-related crashes because of their use by long-haul freight carriers.
