What Happens After a Car Accident in Alabama?
After a car accident in Alabama, investigators begin a detailed examination of the crash scene to determine how the collision occurred. Police officers may review the position of the vehicles, roadway conditions, and any visible evidence, such as debris or skid marks.
In many cases, investigators will also review surveillance cameras from nearby businesses, traffic cameras, or dashcam footage from passing vehicles. These sources can help establish the timeline of the incident and determine whether either driver had time to react or if other factors contributed to the collision.
Insurance companies may also conduct their own investigations, reviewing police reports, vehicle damage, and medical records to assess claims. Alabama follows a fault-based system, meaning the driver responsible for causing the crash may be held financially liable for resulting damages. Determining liability can sometimes require a closer look at factors such as speed, right-of-way, driver attention, and road conditions at the time of the crash.
Injured victims may face medical expenses, lost wages, and other unexpected costs. Compensation may help cover hospital bills, rehabilitation, and other related damages.
A consultation with an experienced car accident lawyer can help injured individuals understand how claims typically work in Alabama, what compensation may be available, and what legal timelines apply as they recover.
