Kimberly, AL (November 26, 2025) – A Texas woman died on November 24 after a two-part crash on I-65 in Kimberly. The collision happened shortly after noon, according to officials in north Jefferson County.
Authorities said Donnene T. Walker-Vean of Houston was driving south on I-65 when her vehicle was involved in a two-vehicle crash. The impact forced both cars to stop along the interstate. After the initial wreck, Walker-Vean exited her vehicle and stood nearby. Moments later, another southbound vehicle struck her car, causing it to hit Walker-Vean and seriously injure her.
Emergency crews reached the scene and provided immediate medical care. Responders then transported Walker-Vean to UAB Hospital for advanced treatment. Despite their efforts, doctors pronounced her dead shortly after her arrival. Officials did not release information regarding the other drivers involved, and it remains unclear if anyone else sustained injuries.
The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency continues to investigate the crash. Troopers have not announced possible charges or shared details about contributing factors. They expect to release additional information as the investigation moves forward.
We extend our deepest sympathies to the family and loved ones of Donnene T. Walker-Vean during this difficult time.
Fatal Pedestrian Crashes on Alabama Interstates

Interstate pedestrian crashes in Alabama often lead to devastating outcomes because vehicles travel at high speeds and drivers have limited time to react. While most pedestrian deaths occur on city streets, interstate crashes remain especially dangerous. Many of these tragedies happen after drivers exit their vehicles following a breakdown or a collision, as fast-moving traffic makes the roadside extremely hazardous.
Fatal pedestrian crashes on major routes like I-65 increase in severity because drivers may not expect people outside their vehicles. Low visibility, distraction, and heavy traffic flow can also contribute to deadly outcomes. Even when a pedestrian stands near their disabled vehicle, a secondary impact can occur, as happened in this case. These events often highlight the importance of pulling far off the roadway when possible and remaining inside the vehicle until help arrives.
When a person loses their life in a crash involving multiple vehicles, families face overwhelming emotional and financial burdens. Medical bills, funeral expenses, lost income, and the long-term impact of grief can take a deep toll. Alabama law allows families to pursue wrongful death claims when another party’s negligence caused a loved one’s passing. These claims can help hold responsible parties accountable while providing support during a difficult period.
Insurance companies often attempt to settle such claims quickly, sometimes before the full facts are known. However, thorough investigations take time, especially when multiple impacts and vehicles are involved. An experienced wrongful death attorney can review police reports, examine crash evidence, speak with witnesses, and determine who may be liable for the loss. Legal guidance helps families understand their rights while easing some of the stress that follows a sudden tragedy.
