Livingston, AL (December 1, 2025) – A Livingston man died on November 29 after a two-vehicle crash on Highway 28 in Sumter County. The wreck happened near the 11-mile marker, about three miles outside Livingston, according to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.
Sergeant Reginal M. King said 68-year-old Ellis Bibbs drove a 1999 Chevrolet S-10 pickup when it collided with a 2021 Ford Expedition operated by a 73-year-old Livingston woman. After the initial impact, Bibbs’ truck left the roadway and hit a tree. Emergency crews reached the scene and provided immediate care to both drivers. Responders transported Bibbs to a nearby hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
The Ford driver was also taken to a Mississippi hospital for treatment, though officials did not release details about her condition. Troopers have not shared what caused the two vehicles to collide.
We extend our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of Ellis Bibbs, and we also wish a complete recovery to the woman who was also injured in this collision.
Car Accidents in Alabama

Rural parts of West Alabama, including communities such as Livingston, often see severe crashes on major routes and smaller highways. Roads like Highway 28 serve both local and regional traffic, which creates steady travel patterns that can lead to dangerous situations. Although rural roads may appear safer due to lighter traffic, they often present greater risks. These areas may have narrower lanes, limited lighting, sharp curves, and fewer safety barriers. Therefore, drivers have less room and less time to react when hazards appear.
Two-vehicle crashes, especially those involving large SUVs and smaller pickup trucks, can lead to serious or fatal injuries. The size and weight difference between vehicles can increase the severity of impact forces. Even when drivers travel at moderate speeds, collisions can cause life-threatening harm.
Victims who survive these crashes may face long recovery periods. Injuries from high-impact collisions often include fractures, internal injuries, spinal damage, and other complications. These injuries can also carry high costs due to emergency treatment, surgery, physical therapy, and lost income.
Families who lose loved ones may struggle with grief while also facing unexpected financial burdens. Funeral costs, medical debt, and the loss of household support can place heavy pressure on surviving family members.
When negligence contributes to a crash, Alabama law allows victims and families to seek compensation. Claims may include damages for medical expenses, lost wages, pain and suffering, and wrongful death. However, insurance companies often try to reduce payouts or deny claims. Because of these challenges, accident victims benefit from seeking legal guidance early.
An experienced attorney can review reports, gather evidence, speak with witnesses, and identify all possible sources of liability. Legal representation helps ensure that victims understand their rights and receive fair consideration.
