Mt. Olive, AL (July 21, 2025) – A heartbreaking crash in northern Jefferson County claimed the lives of two teens and left six others injured early Sunday morning, July 20.

According to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched to the scene at 2:58 a.m. following a single-vehicle wreck along Mt. Olive Road near Partridge Loop. Authorities confirmed that a pickup truck carrying eight teens veered off the roadway and collided with a utility pole.

Authorities confirmed that 18-year-old Treylen Anderson Floyd and 19-year-old Tristan Drake Cox, both recent graduates of Corner High School, were pronounced dead at the scene at 3:24 a.m. The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office released their identities on Monday.

The remaining six passengers, one male and five females aged between 16 and 19, sustained injuries in the crash. All were transported to UAB Hospital in Birmingham for further care. Officials noted that while the injuries were serious, they are not believed to be life-threatening. The investigation into the cause of the crash remains active.

We hope the teens injured in this accident recover quickly.

We offer our sympathies to the families of the victims killed in this crash.

Fatal Auto Accidents in Alabama

When it comes to teenage drivers and passengers, there are several recurring factors that tend to increase the likelihood of serious accidents here in Alabama. Below are some common contributing elements that often lead to injury or fatal crashes involving teens.

  • Inexperience Behind the Wheel: Teen drivers often lack the experience necessary to react quickly in dangerous situations. Their driving skills are still developing, which may contribute to poor decision-making when split-second reactions are needed.

  • Nighttime Driving: Crashes involving teens are far more likely to occur at night. Reduced visibility, drowsiness, and limited traffic awareness increase the dangers of nighttime driving—especially for young or newly licensed drivers.

  • Overloaded Vehicles: With eight passengers in a single pickup truck, distractions increase significantly. Teen drivers are more likely to lose focus or become overwhelmed in these scenarios, which often leads to poor outcomes.

  • Not Wearing Seatbelts: Teens are statistically less likely to wear seatbelts, particularly when they are passengers. This can drastically increase injury severity or the likelihood of death in rollover or single-vehicle crashes.

  • Speeding and Reckless Behavior: Speeding continues to be one of the top causes of fatal teen crashes. Combined with distractions or overconfidence, it becomes especially hazardous during early morning or late-night drives.
