Northport, AL (July 18, 2025) – A fatal accident shut down a portion of Highway 43 in Northport early Wednesday afternoon, after four vehicles were involved in a collision that left one person dead and injured three others.
Shortly before 12:40 p.m. on July 16, the Northport Police Department responded to a crash on Highway 43 near its junction with Highway 171. Assistant Chief Keith Carpenter confirmed that one individual lost their life in the accident, while three others sustained injuries that were considered minor. All injured individuals were evaluated by medical teams at the scene and later transported to nearby hospitals for further treatment.
Northport’s Accident Reconstruction Unit remains on site to examine the sequence of events that led to the multi-vehicle collision. Investigators are working to determine which vehicle initiated the crash and how the other three were subsequently involved.
Due to the nature of the accident and the ongoing investigation, authorities closed Highway 43 in both directions for what was expected to be several hours. Traffic diversions and reroutes were put in place throughout the afternoon as law enforcement requested that drivers steer clear of the area to allow crews room to work safely. Officials have not released the identities of those involved. The incident remains under investigation.
Our sympathies go out to the family of the victim who lost their life in this crash. We also hope those injured in this accident recover quickly.
Car Accidents in Alabama

Multi-vehicle accidents such as the one in Northport can occur without warning. Here are a few common injuries often seen in these types of collisions:
Whiplash and Neck Injuries: Rapid back-and-forth motion during a crash can strain the muscles and tendons in the neck, often resulting in whiplash. Though it may seem mild, this injury can linger and impact mobility for weeks or months.
Head Trauma: Even with airbags, collisions can lead to concussions or other head injuries. Victims might not notice symptoms until hours later, making medical evaluation essential.
Back and Spinal Cord Injuries: High-impact crashes can cause injuries to the lower back or even damage to the spinal cord, potentially resulting in long-term issues such as numbness, chronic pain, or in extreme cases, paralysis.
Broken Bones: Arms, legs, ribs, and facial bones are all at risk in a high-speed collision, particularly in pile-ups involving multiple vehicles. Recovery from fractures often requires surgery or extensive physical therapy.
Psychological Effects: Being involved in a crash can leave emotional scars. Anxiety, sleep issues, or even post-traumatic stress can follow, especially after fatal or serious accidents.
