Pell City, AL (May 21, 2025) – A crash claimed the life of a motorcyclist early Monday morning in St. Clair County. The deadly incident occurred at approximately 6:19 a.m. on May 19, just about a mile north of Pell City, along U.S. Highway 231.
Authorities confirmed that 35-year-old Randall Foster, a resident of Ragland, was riding a Harley-Davidson motorcycle when he lost control and was thrown from the bike. The accident occurred as Foster was traveling along the highway under still-dark conditions.
According to Senior Trooper Vu Quang with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, Foster was ejected from the motorcycle and landed in the roadway. Moments later, he was struck by a Peterbilt garbage truck heading in the opposite direction. That vehicle was driven by 36-year-old Jeremiah B. Harris of Steele.
Foster was pronounced dead at the scene due to the injuries sustained in the crash. The stretch of road was temporarily closed as officials conducted an on-site investigation and cleared the wreckage. No other injuries were reported in connection with the accident. The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding this deadly incident. As of now, no charges or citations have been announced.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Randall Foster.
Motorcycle Accidents in Alabama

Motorcycle crashes in Alabama often result in severe injuries or fatalities due to the lack of protective barriers between riders and other vehicles. In 2023, Alabama reported over 1,400 motorcycle crashes, with many leading to life-changing outcomes for riders. Given the high risks involved in motorcycle travel, it’s important to understand some common factors associated with these accidents:
Road Conditions: Uneven pavement, potholes, and debris are far more dangerous for motorcyclists than for other drivers. Even minor surface changes can cause riders to lose control, particularly at higher speeds.
Limited Visibility: Motorcycles are often less visible to other drivers, especially during low-light hours. This contributes to many collisions, as other motorists may not see a rider in time to react.
Inadequate Helmet Use: Despite helmet laws, not all riders wear proper protective gear. Helmets reduce the likelihood of fatal head injuries but are not always used consistently across the state.
Driver Awareness: A significant number of motorcycle crashes occur when other drivers fail to yield or check blind spots. Increasing awareness through education and campaigns remains a key strategy for improving safety.
Weather Impact: Rain, fog, or high winds can make riding far more hazardous. Slippery surfaces or limited visibility compound the risk of losing control or being hit by another vehicle.
