Union Springs, AL (December 17, 2025) – A serious head-on crash on December 15 left one person dead and two others critically injured in Union Springs. The collision happened just after 7:00 p.m. on Alabama Highway 51, according to Alabama State Troopers.
Investigators said a woman driving on Highway 51 crossed into oncoming traffic and struck a vehicle head-on. The impact caused a third vehicle to crash into the wreckage moments later. One person died at the scene from injuries sustained in the collision.
Emergency crews arrived quickly and found multiple victims needing urgent care.
Troopers said 64-year-old Eric Ousley suffered severe injuries and required immediate transport to the hospital. Paramedics rushed Ousley and another injured victim to Baptist Medical Center South in Montgomery.
Investigators examined vehicle damage, debris patterns, and roadway markings along Highway 51. They also spoke with witnesses who arrived shortly after the crash. Troopers have not stated what caused the initial vehicle to cross into oncoming traffic.
The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency continues to investigate this deadly crash. Officials expect to release additional details once the investigation progresses.
We extend our deepest condolences to the family of the person who lost their life and we also send our strongest hopes for healing to Eric Ousley and the other injured victim as they fight to recover.
Head-On Car Crashes in Bullock County

Head-on collisions remain among the most dangerous crashes on Alabama roadways. In rural counties like Bullock County, highways such as Highway 51 often carry higher speeds and limited lighting. These conditions leave drivers little time to react when a vehicle crosses the center line.
Many head-on crashes occur due to distraction, fatigue, or impairment. A brief lapse in attention can cause a vehicle to drift into oncoming lanes. Curves, narrow shoulders, and limited barriers increase the risk of catastrophic outcomes. When two vehicles collide front to front, the impact force doubles, often resulting in life-threatening injuries.
Victims of head-on crashes frequently suffer severe trauma. Common injuries include head injuries, internal organ damage, spinal trauma, and multiple fractures. Survivors often require emergency surgery, extended hospital stays, and intensive rehabilitation. Recovery may take months or years, and some victims never regain full function.
Families dealing with critical injuries face overwhelming stress. Medical bills grow quickly, especially when life support and intensive care become necessary. Loved ones may miss work while supporting injured family members. Emotional strain often compounds financial hardship during these difficult periods.
When negligence causes a head-on crash, Alabama law allows injured victims and families to pursue compensation. Personal injury claims may address medical costs, lost wages, pain and suffering, and future care needs. In fatal cases, wrongful death claims may help families seek accountability and financial relief.
Insurance companies often challenge these claims aggressively. They may dispute fault or downplay injury severity to limit payouts. Families facing grief and uncertainty may struggle to navigate this process alone. Because of this, legal representation plays a critical role after serious crashes.
Legal guidance allows families to focus on healing while an attorney manages insurance negotiations and deadlines. Strong representation helps ensure that responsible parties face accountability and that victims receive fair consideration.
