Birmingham, AL (April 28, 2025) – A tragic motorcycle crash claimed the life of a Birmingham police officer on Monday morning, April 28, at the Interstate 59 exit ramp to 1st Avenue North. The accident occurred during the early morning commute and involved two vehicles, including a motorcycle ridden by the off-duty officer.
According to Birmingham Police Department Public Information Officer LaQuitta Wade, Officer Marlon Moore was riding his motorcycle when he was fatally injured in a collision near the exit ramp. Emergency medical services arrived promptly on the scene and attempted life-saving measures before transporting Moore to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased. Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service assisted in securing the crash site and clearing debris, while police officers redirected traffic to prevent further incidents.
Officer Moore had served with the Birmingham Police Department since 2019 and was assigned to the east precinct. Chief Michael Pickett expressed deep sorrow over the loss, stating, “Our thoughts and prayers are with Officer Moore’s family, friends, and colleagues during this extremely difficult time. Officer Moore was a valued member of our BPD family, and his memory will live on through the lives he touched.”
The crash remains under investigation by local authorities, who are working to determine the precise cause of the accident. Friends and fellow officers, including Darreyon Johnson, have shared heartfelt memories of Moore’s dedication, integrity, and the joy he brought to those around him.
Our deepest condolences go out to the family, friends, and colleagues of Officer Marlon Moore.
Fatal Motorcycle Accidents in Birmingham
Motorcycle accidents remain a major concern in Birmingham, especially in high-traffic areas like I-59. Due to the lack of protective barriers, even minor collisions can have fatal consequences for riders. Common causes include limited visibility, distracted driving, and failure to yield at interchanges and exit ramps.
After a fatal crash, families are often left with emotional pain and financial burdens. In Alabama, they may be entitled to file a wrongful death claim if the accident was caused by negligence. Seeking legal support can help them pursue compensation for funeral expenses, lost income, and other damages, while also holding the responsible party accountable.
