Fatal Car Accidents in Alabama

Fatal car accidents in Alabama take the lives of hundreds of people annually. The unfortunate truth is that the majority of accidents that take place on our roads are preventable. There are various factors that continue to contribute to these accidents every day. Some of the leading causes include:

  • Speeding: Speeding is a leading cause of fatal car accidents across the United States, including Alabama. When drivers exceed the posted speed limits or drive too fast for the given road conditions, they have less time to react to potential dangers, increasing the likelihood of accidents. Speeding also dramatically increases the severity of collisions, making injuries more severe in fatalities more likely.

  • Driving Under the Influence: When motorists are driving while under the influence of drugs or alcohol, they are likely to cause serious accidents that ultimately claim the lives of others. Any type of intoxicant has the ability to severely impact a driver’s coordination, reaction time, and judgment. This can create a very dangerous situation for drivers and others sharing the road.

  • Failure to yield right-of-way: Failure to yield right-of-way occurs when a driver does not give the right-of-way to another vehicle or pedestrian, as required by traffic laws. This often happens at intersections, crosswalks, or when merging into traffic. Failing to yield can result in severe accidents, especially when vehicles collide at high speeds.

  • Distractions: Anything that takes a driver’s attention from the road ahead can cause a serious accident. Some of the most common distractions that cause accidents here in Alabama include cell phones, food, radios, and GPS systems.
