DeKalb Co, AL - Sandra Mashburn Killed in Fatal Car Crash on AL 68

DeKalb Co, AL (October 23, 2024) – A fatal multi-car crash occurred on Wednesday morning resulting in the death of an Albertville woman and injuries to three others. The incident, reported by the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA), took place shortly after 9:00 a.m. on AL 68, approximately two miles west of Crossville.

According to officials, Sandra Mashburn, 70, was driving a 2007 Ford Explorer when she collided with a 2011 Jeep Wrangler driven by 58-year-old Robert Tipton. The impact caused Tipton’s Jeep to leave the roadway and catch fire. Following this, Mashburn’s Explorer struck a Chrysler Pacifica Touring van driven by Adrianne Stevens.

Emergency responders pronounced Mashburn dead at the scene. Tipton was transported to UAB Hospital for treatment of his injuries. A 13-year-old passenger in Tipton's vehicle was also injured and taken to a local hospital; officials reported that the teenager was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident.

Firefighters were on the scene to assist in the extraction of the vehicles and to control the situation. Traffic was managed by local authorities to ensure safety while the investigation continued.

Our thoughts and condolences go out to the family and friends of Sandra Mashburn during this difficult time.
