Jefferson Co, AL – High-Speed Pursuit Ends in Injury Crash on US Hwy 78

Jefferson Co, AL (January 31, 2025) – A police chase in Jefferson County led to a crash with injuries on Wednesday, January 29, along US Highway 78, near the intersection of Trilby St and Cherry Ave in the Pratt City area. At least two people, including the suspect, suffered injuries in the collision.

According to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, the pursuit originated from an attempted traffic stop involving a woman with an outstanding misdemeanor warrant. However, the driver of the vehicle, a male suspect, refused to comply and sped away, prompting a high-speed chase by deputies.

The pursuit concluded shortly before 9:00 a.m. when the fleeing car crashed into two other cars on the highway. Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene, providing medical aid to the injured. Both the suspect and one of the impacted drivers were transported to UAB Hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.

As a result of the crash, multiple lanes on US Highway 78 were temporarily closed while authorities managed the situation. Deputies, along with local fire crews, worked to clear the wreckage and direct traffic. The roadway was fully reopened after several hours.
