Fatal Auto Accidents in Alabama

In 2022, a total of 31,990 motor vehicle crashes were reported in the state of Alabama. These accidents left more than 10,900 people injured while claiming the lives of almost 600 individuals.

There are a variety of factors that can contribute to car accidents in Alabama. One common cause is distracted driving, which includes activities such as texting, eating, or talking on the phone while behind the wheel. This can take your eyes off the road and decrease your reaction time if something unexpected happens.

Another contributing factor is speeding. Drivers who exceed the posted speed limit have less control over their vehicles and may not be able to stop in time to avoid an accident. Additionally, aggressive driving behaviors like tailgating and weaving between lanes put you at greater risk for collisions.

Impaired driving is also a leading cause of car accidents in Alabama. Operating a vehicle under the influence of drugs or alcohol significantly impairs judgment and coordination, making it difficult to operate safely on the road.

Inclement weather conditions like heavy rain or ice can make roads slick and increase the likelihood of losing control of your vehicle. It's important to exercise caution when driving during these types of conditions by slowing down and leaving extra space between you and other drivers.
